10/15/13 - Wyoming defeats Blanchester in sectional tournament, Hosler sets another school record
The Blanchester girls soccer team was defeated last night by a score of 8-1 against a strong Wyoming team. In the loss, Morgan Swinderman scored the lone goal for the Cats, which was her 15th of the year, in the second half off of a pass from Audrey Jordan. Wyoming placed a barrage of shots at goalkeeper Ana Hosler, who notched a single game school record of 33 saves in goal for the Cats. Those saves push Hosler to 246 saves on the season, surpassing her single season saves record for Blanchester of 239 that she set as a junior. In addition to her single season records, she also holds the career saves mark with 806 in her career as well as the career shutout record for Blanchester of 15 shutouts. It was only fitting for Hosler that she ended a record setting career with another Blanchester record. Morgan Swinderman's goal put her at 52 for her career, and although that number is not a record, it shows how consistent she was over her 4 year career, as she had at least 13 goals in 3 separate seasons.
10/10/13 - Blanchester Lady Cats Soccer Defeats Williamsburg, Hosler sets another record
The Blanchester Lady Cats finished the regular season on a high note by defeating the Williamsburg Wildcats 2-0 on Thursday night to clinch 2nd place in the SBAAC National Division. Morgan Swinderman continued her 4 game scoring streak with a goal in the first half to put the Lady Cats up 1-0 at the half (Swinderman has scored 6 goals in the past 4 games). Shauna Fiebing recorded the assist on that goal in her first game back from injury. In the second half, Swinderman struck again with a precision shot above the a charging goalie after a nice cross from Audrey Jordan. Sam Parker and Kayla Nause had standout games in the midfield for Blan. Ana Hosler had 15 saves in the goal in the shutout effort, which was her 4th shutout of the season and 15th of her career. The 15 career shutouts is another Blanchester school record for Hosler, who also holds the single season saves record and career saves record for Blan, which now stands at 776. With her two goals tonight, Swinderman pushed her season tally to 14. For her career, Swinderman has scored a total of 51 goals. The Lady Cats ended their regular season with an 8-8 record and a 7-3 record in league play.
10/8/13 - Blanchester falls just shy of an upset bid on Senior Night
The Blanchester Lady Cats took on the Batavia Bulldogs in a late season matchup between the top two teams in the standings of the SBAAC National Division, with Batavia coming away with a 2-1 victory. It was Senior Night for Blanchester, and senior Morgan Swinderman got the scoring going with a brilliant header to the top of the goal off of a perfectly placed corner kick from Julia Howard. The first half was a tense matchup, and ended with Blan up 1-0. The action remained the same in the second half until Batavia scored off of a free kick just outside the box with 20 minutes remaining. The game became a battle of wills during the last twenty minutes, and with only 2 minutes left in the game, Batavia put in the winning goal off of a deflected clear that bounced off the back of a Batavia player to find it's way to the back of the net. The Blanchester seniors honored before the game were Ana Hosler, Morgan Swinderman, Sam Parker, Abie Howell, and Chelsea Shell. Each senior shined on the field during the game as they have done for their career and have played integral roles for the Cats this season (Shell did not play due to injury). Swinderman's goal pushes her total to 12 on the season. Hosler added 14 saves in the goal. The Cats record is 7-8 on the year and 6-3 in league play.
10/3/13 - Blanchester Lady Cats Soccer Defeat Felicity
The Blanchester Lady Cats varsity soccer team defeated Felicity by a score of 2-1 on Thursday night. Blan dominated possession in the first half of the game but were kept from scoring until senior forward Morgan Swinderman sent a bullet in for a score with 12 minutes left in the half off an assist from Julia Howard. The score sat at 1-0 at halftime. Felicity came out attacking in the second half and eventually evened the score at 1-1 with under 20 minutes remaining in the game. As the half wound down, the Cats began a frantic attack and Swinderman struck again with under 4 minutes to go to get the game winning goal off an assist from Bella Cook. Ana Hosler had 3 saves in goal for the Wildcats on the evening. With the victory, the Cats improve their record to 7-7 and to 6-2 in conference play.
9/30/13 - Blanchester Girls Top CNE in Varsity Soccer
The Blanchester Lady Cats came away victorious against the CNE Rockets Monday night in a SBAAC matchup. The Cats jumped out to an early lead after 8 minutes in the game when Morgan Swinderman finished a shot to just under the top crossbar after a great through ball from Audrey Jordan. Blan kept possession for most of the first half until CNE made a late rally. With just under 4 minutes remaining, the Rockets were awarded a penalty and made good on the attempt to tie to the game at 1-1 just before half. The Lady Cats came back out in the second half with intensity and got the go ahead goal with 25 minutes remaining. Doing the damage for the Cats was again Morgan Swinderman who received another great pass from Audrey Jordan in front of the goal. The Cats had to outlast a furious CNE attack for the final 10 minutes for the win. Ana Hosler added 10 goals in the winning effort. Blan pushes their record to 6-7 on the season, with a record of 5-2 in SBAAC league play.
9/25/13 - Blanchester loses to Lynchburg in Girls Soccer
Last night the Blanchester Wildcats lost to Lynchburg-Clay by a score of 5-0 in a girls varsity soccer matchup. The first half was evenly matched as both teams countered back and forth but neither team could break away for a score as the teams went into half with a score of 0-0. In the second half Lynchburg found it's rhythm, pumping in 5 goals. Blan keeper Ana Hosler had 15 saves on the night. Blanchester's record falls to 5-7 on the year and they take on CNE at home on next Monday night.
9/19/13 - Blan Defeats Bethel-Tate in Girls Soccer
The Blanchester Lady Wildcats defeated Bethel-Tate by a score of 3-0 on Thursday night. The game featured a close game during the first half as Blan controlled possession but was unable to crack Bethel-Tate's staunch defense. The Wildcats' wasted no time in the second half to figure out the defense however as Audrey Jordan scored 30 seconds into the half for her first goal of the season in her first game back from injury. The assist on the play came from Morgan Swinderman. The Cats added insurance goals later in the half from Swinderman and Sam Parker, with Kayla Nause notching the 2 assists for the goals. The Cats played a great team game to earn the victory and Ana Hosler had 9 saves in her shutout effort in goal. The Cats improved their record to 5-6 with the win.
9/18/13 - Blan Girls Soccer loses to Goshen
The Blanchester Lady Wildcats lost to the Goshen Warriors by a score of 3-0 last night. Goshen scored 1 in the first half and added to insurance goals in the second to earn the victory. Ana Hosler had 15 saves in goal for the Wildcats. The top performers for the Wildcats were Morgan Swinderman offensively and Brooke Gibbons defensively. The Cats now have a record of 4-6.
9/17/13 - Massie defeats Blanchester in Girls Soccer
The Blanchester Wildcats and Clinton-Massie Falcons squared off in a girls varsity contest last night, with Massie earning a 12-0 victory. Massie poured in 6 goals in each half with pinpoint shooting and strong passing play. Ana Hosler had 7 saves in goal for the Wildcats in the first half, and Chloe Caplinger had 6 saves in the second half for Blan. The loss drops Blan to 4-5 on the season.
9/13/13 - Blanchester Girls Soccer lose to Western Brown
The Blanchester Lady Cats varsity soccer team fell to the Western Brown Broncos by a score of 3-1 on Thursday night. Western Brown got on the board in the first half with a nice header to take the lead, but Blan responded back roughly 10 minutes later. Senior Morgan Swinderman finished off a penalty kick for her 6th goal of the season to tie the game at 1 apiece. As halftime neared, the Broncos struck again off of a nice cross to take the lead. The second half was stayed competitive, but the Broncos put in their 3rd goal with 15 minutes left to round out the scoring. Blan keeper Ana Hosler had 18 saves on the night. The Wildcats fall to 4-4 on the season with the loss and take on Clinton Massie on Monday night.
9/11/13 - Blanchester falls to Fayetteville
The Blanchester Wildcats girls varsity soccer team lost a nail-biter to Fayetteville last night by a score of 1-0. The matchup pitted two evenly matched teams together in an intense battle that saw both sides get good looks at goal that either missed or were kept out by good saves from the keeper. Fayetteville got the lone deciding goal with only 14 seconds left on the clock in the first half. The second half played out much like the first with neither team being able to crack the opposing teams defense. Ana Hosler had 19 saves in the goal for Blanchester. With the loss, Blan falls to 4-3 on the season and takes on Western Brown Thursday night.
9/9/13 - Lady Cats rally to beat Lady G-Men
The Blanchester Varsity girls soccer team defeated Georgetown tonight by a score of 2-1 last night. The Lady Cats got off to a slow start in their first game without star sweeper Audrey Jordan who suffered in injury in the Cats' previous contest and had difficulty controlling possession for most of the first half. The Lady G-Men finally capitalized with 15 minutes remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half a reinvigorated Lady Cats squad came out with an intensity that was missing in the first half and immediately tied up the game after only 1 minute and 30 seconds of play in the second half. Sophomore defender Jasmine Maloney lofted a long ball over the top of the Georgetown defense that found a racing Morgan Swinderman as she buried the shot for her 5th goal of the year. After continuing to press the attack, the Cats struck again off a corner kick only 9 minutes later. Swinderman placed the corner kick to the backside of the goal where junior forward Julia Howard was waiting to head it in for the go ahead score that would be the decisive goal of the match. The rest of the half was not without drama however, as senior keeper Ana Hosler made several great plays to turn away several Georgetown one on one attacks and ended the game with 15 saves. Freshman Emma Gundler provided a boost for the Cats in her first game back from injury this season, and freshman McKenzie Hamm also made key plays for the Cats down the stretch. The Cats improved their record to 4-2 on the season and take on Fayetteville on Tuesday night.
9/5/13 - Hosler sets all time saves record as Blan falls to Williamsburg
In a league matchup between the Blanchester Lady Cats and the Williamsburg Wildcats, Blanchester fell by a score of 2-1. The first half was a back and forth affair until Williamsburg drew first blood with a breakaway goal late in the half. In the second half, Blan answered back as Morgan Swinderman stole a pass and buried the shot for her fourth of the year. Williamsburg scored the deciding goal with 20 minutes to go and held on for the win. Senior captain Ana Hosler had 9 saves in the goal for Blan, pushing her career saves number to 625, which breaks the Blanchester career saves record. Hosler already holds the record for single season saves with 239 that she set last year. With the loss, Blan falls to 3-2 on the season.
9/3/13 - Blanchester falls to Batavia in Girls Soccer
Last night the Blanchester Lady Cats varsity soccer team lost to Batavia by a score of 7-0. Batavia found their rhythm early and poured in 5 goals for the Lady Bulldogs, while the Cats attacks on goal ended in near misses. The scoring stalled in the second half until Batavia put in two more attempts with less than 8 minutes left in the game. Ana Hosler had 16 saves in the loss for the Wildcats, who also had strong efforts from Kayla Nause, Morgan Swinderman and Sam Parker despite the outcome. The loss brings the Wildcats record to 3-1 on the season. The Cats take on Williamsburg at home on Thursday for their next match.
8/29/13 - Blanchester Tops Felicity in Soccer Home Opener
The Blanchester Lady Cats varsity soccer team topped the Felicity Cardinals 2-0 in the Cats' home opener on Thursday night. The first half featured strong play from the Cats, but they were unable to turn their advantage in time of possession into a goal until late in the half. Sophomore Audrey Jordan weaved her way through the Cardinal defense and laid off a pass to junior Julia Howard who powered a shot that found the top post and went in for the first goal of the game. The second half played out much the same as the Cats held a significant edge in time of possession again. Senior Morgan Swinderman, who was celebrating her 18th birthday on the night, added an insurance goal in the second half off a great through ball assist from fellow senior Sam Parker. The goal was Swinderman's third of the season. Ana Hosler added 8 saves on the night in the shutout effort. Senior Abie Howell had a standout game on defense to help preserve the second shutout for the Cats in the past two games. The Cats take the field again at Batavia on Tuesday, September 3rd.
8/27/13 - Blanchester Edges Out CNE in SBAAC Battle
In a tense early season matchup, the Blanchester Lady Cats defeated the CNE Rockets by a score of 1-0. The game featured two well-matched teams and the first half was a back and forth battle for possession. With 5 minutes remaining in the half, junior Julia Howard sent a ball into the box that senior captain Morgan Swinderman sent to the bottom corner of the net for a clinical finish. That goal would be the only score of the game as the second half featured several furious attacks that were all turned away. The game featured a dazzling display of goalkeeping by both keepers, Rocket McKenzie Cooper and Lady Cat senior captain Ana Hosler. Hosler notched 16 saves in the shutout effort. Led by sweeper Audrey Jordan, the defensive lineup of Jasmine Maloney, Abie Howell, and Brooke Gibbons flew all over the field and senior captain Sam Parker dominated the midfield. The victory pushed the Wildcats record to 2-0 on the year, and they next take the field against Felicity at home on Thursday night.
8/22/13 - Lady Cats Grab Victory in Season Opener
The Blanchester Varsity Ladies Soccer team opened the season with a convincing 4-1 victory on the road against the Georgetown Lady G-Men. The Lady Cats jumped out to quick start as senior captain Morgan Swinderman laced a bullet shot that just eeked past the upper post with only two minutes expired in the game. After a weather delay, action picked up again, and with 19 minutes left in the half junior Kayla Nause found the back of the net off a pass from Swinderman to push the lead to 2-0. The Lady Cats didn't rest on the their lead at half and junior Julia Howard perfectly bent a corner kick that curled past the keeper. Three minutes later Blan struck again as junior Bella Cook finished off a cross from senior captain Sam Parker. Georgetown fought back with a goal from Becca Whitaker in the final 15 minutes to end the scoring for both teams. The Lady Cats played a strong game defensively led by sophomore Audrey Jordan and senior captain goalkeeper Ana Hosler who recorded 11 saves, several being difficult to control on the wet field. The Lady Cats next take the field at CNE on Tuesday the 27th.
