10/13/15 - Ladycats JV ties Lynchburg
The Blanchester Ladycats JV soccer team took on Lynchburg in their season finale on Tuesday night and came away with a 2-2 tie. The match was a back and forth affair as both teams traded goals in each half. Lynchburg got on the scoreboard first, scoring on a breakaway and shot to take a 1-0 lead. Blanchester dug in from there, however, and evened the score with less than five minutes remaining in the first half. Virginia Maloney volleyed a cross into the box that was pounced on by freshman Shylinn Flint, who scored her first goal of the year with the finish, taking the teams to halftime knotted up at 1-1. In the second half, Blan took the lead with a penalty kick expertly taken by Brynne Cain to push the score to 2-1. Lynchburg rallied late in the game to score off of a Blan miscue with three minutes left to tie up the game and send the match to a draw. Regan Ostermeier played a strong game in goal for the Cats while Sally Schafer added a good effort on defense as well. The Ladycats JV finish the year with a record of 2-1-4 on the season.
9/24/15 - Ladycats JV ties Bethel
The Ladycats JV soccer team took on Bethel-Tate on Wednesday and came away with a 1-1 tie. All the game's scoring took place in the first half with Bethel jumping out to an early 1-0 lead. Blan found an answer, however, as Virginia Maloney volleyed a pass from Sally Schafer to the back of the net to tie up the game before the half. Although the second half did not see a change in the final score, Blan fired a barrage of shots at the Bethel keeper in the second half, but were unable to finish their chances. Defenders Savana Shank and Schafer played well for the Cats to fend off several Bethel chances on the other end. The Ladycats JV moves to 2-1-3 on the year with the result.
9/22/15 - Ladycats JV tie Norwood
The Ladycats JV soccer girls took on the Norwood Indians and came away with a 0-0 tie. The game became a defensive affair early on, with Blan defenders Savana Shank and Jalyna Ambrocia stymieing the Norwood attack. Freshmen forward Brianna Wilson created several scoring chances for the Cats, but ultimately Blan was unable to take advantage of the opportunities. Goalies Regan Ostermeier and Sabrina Duncan combined for the shutout for Blan. The Ladycats record moves to 2-1-2 on the year and they take on Bethel-Tate at home on Wednesday.
9/17/15 - Ladycats tie Batavia
The Blanchester Ladycats JV soccer team took on Batavia on Thursday night and came away with a 1-1 tie. The match featured a competitive back and forth game, with the first half seeing momentum shift back and forth between the two evenly matched teams. The teams entered the half scoreless due to strong defensive efforts from both sides, and the beginning of the second half continued the trend. Batavia began to slowly gain control of time of possession, and snatched the first goal of the game off of a breakaway. Minutes later Blan struck back after a strong sliding save by keeper Reagan Ostermeier energized the Ladycats. Freshmen Brianna Wilson scored from the edge of the box from a Sydney Scott assist to even up the score at 1 all. Both teams created scoring chances but could not finish the attack as the score held until the end of the game. Savana Shank and Olivia Gundler patrolled a strong defensive line for the Ladycats to hold off several quality Batavia chances. The Ladycats record moves to 2-1-1 overall with the tie.
9/14/15 - Ladycats JV takes down Wilmington
The Blanchester Ladycats JV girls soccer team defeated Wilmington by a score of 4-1 on Monday night. Blan was the first to get on the board after Brynne Cain scored her first goal of the season for the Ladycats. The Hurricanes answered back with a goal of their own to knot up the score at 1 all, but the tie would not last long. Blan was awarded a penalty in the box, which freshmen Sally Schafer put to the back of the net to give the Ladycats a 2-1 halftime lead. The second half saw Blan begin to take control of the game, as Brianna Wilson and Sydney Scott both scored to push the lead to 4-1, which would hold until the final whistle. The Ladycats JV team improves to 2-1 on the season with the victory.
8/31/15 - Ladycats JV Soccer defeats Wilmington
The Blanchester Ladycats JV soccer team defeated the Wilmington Hurricanes by a score of 4-0 on Monday night. Rebounding from a tough loss on Friday, the Ladycats came out with a higher level of intensity and put together a complete game against the Hurricanes. The Ladycats controlled the time of possession in the first half, but it wasn't until eight minutes before the half that Blan got themselves on the board. Sophomore Katie Wilson volleyed home a corner kick from freshmen Emily Hinkle to give the Ladycats a lead that they would not relinquish. Striking again quickly, Hinkle found freshmen Brianna Wilson this time on a through ball to give Blan a 2-0 halftime lead. The Ladycats continued to control the pace of the game in the second half and put in a penalty kick from freshmen Sally Schafer, and Brianna Wilson scored her second goal of the match following in a rebound off an Allie Jordan shot. Reagan Ostermeier earned the shutout in goal, and freshmen Savana Shank and Olivia Gundler played a great game defensively to keep the Hurricanes at bay.
8/30/15 - Ladycats JV Soccer Falls to Lynchburg
The Ladycats JV soccer team lost in their season opener at Lynchburg by a score of 5-2. Lynchburg jumped out to a quick lead and went on to control the first half, building a 4-0 nothing lead. Minutes before halftime, sophomore Virginia Maloney put one past the keeper to make the score 4-1 at the break. Lynchburg reclaimed a 4 goal lead by opening the second half with another quick goal, but the Ladycats answered quickly with a goal of their own by Sydney Scott off of an assist from Maloney. Scott took a shot from the edge of the box that glanced off the keeper's hands and just crossed the goal line before the keeper could corral it again. Cassidy Todd, Olivia Gundler, and Sally Schafer also played at a high level despite the loss. The Ladycats JV play again Monday against Wilmington.
